In humanitarian response, we know that timely access to information can mean the difference between life and loss. Often the greatest barriers to access to information are the willingness of organisations to work together in an open, transparent way and the capability to share their data. Recognising this, ESUPS has joined with like-minded organisations to improve access to stock information and recommendations, with a particular focus on actors at national and sub-national level.

Information exchange driving better stock management
ESUPS has recently established a link between STOCKHOLM and the Log IE platform managed by the Global Logistics Cluster. The connection facilitates the sharing of anonymised, consolidated stock information between the platforms, in order to support better preparedness efforts through the optimisation of prepositioned stock.
Through an Application Programming Interface, or API, updates to stock information in STOCKHOLM are automatically and immediately reflected in LogIE, creating an accurate, real-time picture of prepositioned stock. Users can therefore see an overview of the stock situation in their local area, as well as recommendations to improve their prepositioning. More detailed mapping and analysis is then available by logging into STOCKHOLM.
Digitalisation across the entire disaster management cycle
Having a prepared, connected, and resilient humanitarian community relies on having oversight across all phases of disaster management. To this end, Dubai Humanitarian and UNCTAD/IMPACCT have also joined with ESUPS to share their stock and logistics information in LogIE. The video below highlights our motivation and vision to create this resource for the humanitarian community.
The combined dashboard is more than just a data repository. It is a tool that empowers national decision-makers. With accurate, timely information, they can make data-driven, locally-led decisions. This has the potential to reduce costs, limit carbon emissions and shorten lead times in the response phase.
Indeed, the vision behind this joint initiative extends beyond data integration. We aim to drive a broader transformation in humanitarian operations by bridging gaps and building trust between organisations. This will unlock greater cooperation and facilitate the flow of information among actors across all phases of the disaster management cycle: preparedness, anticipation and response.
Overall, we want to show the powerful impact that collaboration and shared resources can have on the effectiveness of humanitarian action. Together, we are moving toward a humanitarian system where cooperation and transparency lead to faster, smarter, and more sustainable outcomes.
