Updated analysis of newly collected data on pre-positioned relief items in the country, including data on the COVID-19 crisis.

The process of data analysis resulted in the elaboration of a first set of recommendations on pre-positioned stock levels, which were made available to the partners in the country and distributed by the Nepal Logistics Cluster to its members.

March 2020

Country visit

First country visit to present the project and focus on some specific elements, mainly the STOCKHOLM platform and its analytics mathematical model, developed by Penn State University in collaboration with the MIT. The visit was followed by a few more requests for information and clarifications.

Stock data collection

Carried out with the the support of the Nepal Logistics Cluster coordinator, the Welthungerhilfe Country Office and OCHA.

Engagement

Nepal, that saw preparedness measures being implemented prior to the 2015 earthquake, became a country of focus right after the Philippines for two reasons: firstly because data were immediately and freshly available; secondly, because multiplying the number of countries being engaged in a single region offers an opportunity to start drawing a broader picture of the pre-positioning situation at a regional level.
The decision is also aligned with the Logistics Cluster Preparedness unit’s country selection, to ensure that a coordination mechanism is in place to work on the support that ESUPS could offer.
